August 25, 2013 West End Celebration, Sand City, CA Moonalice poster by Lauren Yurkovich
According to Moonalice legend, today’s poster by Lauren Yurkovich documents the theme of this Sand City festival: guitars, not guns. The poster depicts Calamity Jane Moonalice, great great great grand daughter of the original Calamity Jane, whose career robbing stagecoaches is the stuff of history, as well as legend. Calamity Jane Moonalice has dedicated her life to buying unlicensed automatic weapons and converting them into guitars and basses. Not only do the instruments sound great, they have built in lighters and roach clips. Buy one today!!
July 19, 2013 Don Quixote’s Music Hall, Felton, CA Moonalice poster by Lauren Yurkovich
According to Moonalice legend, tonight’s poster by Lauren Yurkovich depicts Melody Moonalice, the pied piper of Felton! Melody’s red hair was very unusual. It was redder than red, but more important, it made music when the wind blew. When a stiff breeze blew in from the Pacific, Melody’s hair jammed like the Dead at the Fillmore in 1969. As a result, everywhere Melody went, she was followed by spinners. They even had a parking lot with veggie burritos. We have never seen her, but we heard Melody’s hair when we got here tonight. Accept no imitations!
June 2, 2013 Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival, Walnut Creek, CA Moonalice poster by Lauren Yurkovich
According to Moonalice legend, today’s poster by Lauren Yurkovich provides clues about the origins of this 34-year old festival. It depicts Winona Moonalice, our tribe’s matron saint of intoxicating beverages. Known to everyone as Wine — or Wino to her family — she married her third cousin, Arthur, and together they pioneered summer gatherings where people walked in the sunshine, eating, drinking and looking at pretty things … before eventually keeling over. To honor Arthur and Winona this event is known as the Art and Wine Festival.
